SAMRO Service Week Heads to Durban for Music Imbizo
SAMRO is taking the second leg of The State of Your Music: SAMRO Service Week to Durban from 26 to 29 August 2026, as part of Music Imbizo at UNISA Durban Campus, KwaZulu-Natal.
Following its Johannesburg edition, the initiative will give SAMRO members and prospective members direct access to representatives for practical support around music rights, royalties and administration.
The Durban Service Week is intended to help address common administrative gaps that can affect how creators are credited and compensated. These include unnotified works, incomplete registrations, outdated banking information, inaccurate split information and limited understanding of contractual obligations.
No appointment is required. Attendees can visit the SAMRO activation area at Music Imbizo between 09h00 and 15h00 from 26 to 29 August 2026.
Areas of support will include:
- Music Copyright: Understanding and protecting creative work.
- Royalty Earnings: Understanding how royalties are generated, reading statements and identifying unclaimed royalties.
- Catalogue Management: Registering musical works correctly, understanding publisher agreements and maintaining accurate splits.
- Live Performances: Understanding how live performances can generate royalties and why setlist submissions matter.
- CIPC Compliance: Understanding why CIPC status matters for SAMRO publishers and how compliance can affect royalty earnings.
- Songwriter Agreements: Key contractual considerations for composers and authors, including the role of music publishers.
- SAMRO Benefits: Information on member benefits, including the SAMRO Retirement Annuity Fund and Funeral Benefit support.
- SAMRO CSI: Information on SAMRO’s Corporate Social Investment initiatives supporting music development, education and member empowerment.
SAMRO has indicated that additional regional dates and venues will be announced in due course.
