When Tshedza Pictures needed music supervision that could keep pace with the drama and depth of iThonga’s 100-episode run, they turned to Downtown Music Publishing Africa. The goal? Complement Brendan Jury’s original score with music that could hit emotional highs, cultural cues, and narrative beats with precision.
Setting the Scene
iThonga isn’t just a long-running telenovela — it’s a cultural fixture. Our involvement began with a clear brief: bring additional music that elevates the score without losing its soul. We dug deep into our library to curate tracks that mirrored the show’s creative vision, then pushed further by working directly with composers to produce original pieces made to measure. Across 100 episodes, we ensured the music wasn’t background noise — it was storytelling in its own right.

- Score Tagging & Metadata Accuracy: We handled every update to the score, ensuring CMOs and production partners stayed aligned. This meant the creative team could focus entirely on composition, while we kept the logistics watertight.

Each collaborator brought authenticity, craft, and a distinct sonic fingerprint to the project.
