The Book of Negroes took a whopping 11 awards at the Canadian Screen Awards. The six-part miniseries based on a novel by Lawrence Hill, prevailed at the award ceremony that was held on the 13th of March 2016 in Toronto, Canada.
Shot in South Africa, this Canadian/South African co-production employed over 110 South African crew-members and 70 South African actors who had numerous roles within the miniseries.
“We are extremely thrilled and proud to be recognised with so many awards at the Canadian Screen Awards. It proves once again that South African crew and cast are as good as any in the world”, said Lance Samuels of Out Of Africa Entertainment.
Amongst some of the South African winners was Philip Miller, who won the award for the Best Original Music Score at the Canadian Screen Awards.
“Thanks needs to go to the Department of Trade and Industry. Without the departments continued support of the film industry, through its film and television rebate incentive, shows like this would be impossible to make in South Africa,” said Samuels.
