Gcwalisa 2025: Durban showed up, Maskandi levelled up

Nov 12, 2025 | Events, Featured

A person in white clothes stands on stage in Durban, holding a trophy aloft amid a burst of golden confetti and bright stage lights, celebrating Maskandi success at night with an enthusiastic crowd and other performers visible in the background.

Durban showed up: the 4th Gcwalisa Spring Fest (8 Nov 2025)

This past weekend our team had the privilege of supporting our client, Khuzani “KING” Mpungose, at the 4th Annual Gcwalisa Spring Picnic (All White) at Hollywoodbets Kings Park Outer Fields, Durban—a vibrant celebration of music, culture and community that keeps growing each year.

Partnership in practice (what we mean when we say “with you, end to end”)

At Downtown Music Publishing Africa, our commitment goes beyond service delivery. We build enduring partnerships—trust, collaboration and shared success—so milestone moments land cleanly. We stay in our lane as publishing partners (rights, registrations, cue-sheet readiness and buyer-ready deliverables), not a label or distributor. That backbone is how great performances travel beyond the stage.

Honouring excellence: Khuzani levels up in Los Angeles

We’re thrilled to congratulate Khuzani on being named Best Independent Artist (African) at the Hollywood & African Prestigious Awards (HAPAwards) in Los Angeles—an international nod to Maskandi’s craft and consistency. Seeing Durban’s unity and LA’s recognition in the same week shows what’s possible when the art and the admin are both tight.

Why this matters for creators (the quiet work that compounds)

The Gcwalisa Spring Fest has become a cultural highlight, drawing thousands to celebrate South African artistry and pride. Momentum compounds when the back-end is clean: aligned splits, ISRC/ISWC mapped, and cue-sheet fields ready. That admin discipline lets music move from community stage → national coverage → international validation without avoidable friction.

Our commitment, looking ahead

Supporting our clients means walking with them—through projects and through milestones. We remain steadfast in cultivating partnerships that protect rights, unlock opportunities and respect the culture that makes the music.

One practical next step

Creators: Send your ISRC + ISWC list for a free metadata check. We’ll flag conflicts and missing credits so your next quarter reconciles cleanly and your catalogue is buyer-ready.
